CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following a series win over Northeastern that included a dramatic rally in the finale, College of Charleston plays its last non-conference game of the season at No. 11 Duke on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Cougars (36-12) stormed back from an eighth inning deficit with six runs capped by a grand slam from Kevin Madden to defeat the Huskies, 6-3, and stay within a half-game of UNCW in the race for the CAA regular season title.
Charleston secured at least the No. 2 seed and earned a first-round bye in the CAA Tournament, which gets underway May 22 in Wilmington.
The Cougars, winners of 22 of their past 25 games, are facing the Blue Devils for the first time in program history. The game is Charleston's fourth against a power conference team this season after dropping three at Patriots Point to Nebraska by a total of four runs in the third weekend.
Duke is 34-16 and 15-12 in the ACC, tied for second in the Coastal Division. The Blue Devils have a pair of ACC series wins against teams ranked in the Top 10, including two of three against then No. 1 Wake Forest.
The Cougars remain in North Carolina the rest of the week, traveling to Elon for their final CAA series of the season beginning Thursday.
