CHARLESTON, S.C. – Through the continued support of donors, alumni, and supporters, the College of Charleston athletic department saw record-breaking revenue success in 2023-24.
"On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and staff I would like to extend a heartfelt 'Thank You' to our generous donors. Once again, the Charleston community has stepped up in record-breaking fashion," said Director of Athletics Matt Roberts. "Your commitment to supporting our students' pursuit of academic excellence and competitive success is truly appreciated."
On the heels of a historic men's basketball campaign and season ticket sellout, the department eclipsed $1 million in ticket revenue for the first time in school history. Charleston finished the year with $1,179,985 in ticket revenue, an increase of 28% over the previous fiscal year.
The College of Charleston Athletic Fund has set yet another record-breaking fundraising year. CAF's annual fund, the Cougar Club, raised a record $1.9 million during the 2023-24 fiscal year, marking an increase from the $1.5 million raised the previous year. The annual fund raises money specifically directly to assist with student-athlete scholarships.
"On behalf of the Charleston Athletic Fund Staff and our Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize our tremendous and enthusiastic fan base," said Executive Director of The Cougar Club Jerry Baker. "Through the unbelievable support of our donors, we were once again able to set a record in support of our world class student-athletes."
CAF has recorded a record-breaking year each fiscal year since 2018. In total, CAF raised $6.6 million for the athletic department, an increase of 13% percent from 2023, through special fundraising events, sport-specific giving and other initiatives. Funding from the Charleston Athletic Fund provides financial resources to more than 350 student-athletes competing in 19 varsity sports at The College.
Corporate sponsorship also continues to grow at a record pace, contributing just over $1 million partnership dollars to Cougar athletics.
