
Men's Basketball Hosts Towson in Battle of Preseason Favorites

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team hosts Towson on Saturday, January 4 at TD Arena in a rematch of the last two CAA semifinal contests. Action is set for 2:00 p.m. in Charleston.

STORYLINES
- The Cougars are winners of their last three contests, coming off a 94-67 win over Hampton Thursday to open CAA play. Charleston outscored Hampton 52-32 in the second half while sinking 12 treys on their way to the program's largest margin of victory so far this season.
- Derrin Boyd led Charleston with 26 points, his new Cougar high. The graduate student was 5-9 from three-point range and made all nine attempts from the charity stripe. Ante Brzovic had 21 points, his sixth 20+ point performance of the season. He was one rebound away from a double-double, grabbing nine on the night.
- Saturday will mark the 29th all-time meeting between the programs with Charleston holding the 18-10 all-time edge, winning five of the last six meetings. The last meeting was a 61-56 win for the Cougars in the 2024 CAA Tournament to send Charleston to the title game. The game is the only meeting between the Cougars and Tigers this season, the first and second place teams in the 2024 CAA Preseason Poll.
- Chris Mack's squad currently ranks 35th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (28.00), led by Brzovic who ranks 14th individually in the category (7.29). The CAA Preseason Player of the Year is also 13th in total made field goals in the nation (106).
- Point guard CJ Fulton sits at eighth in the country in assist/turnover ratio (3.89). The senior has recorded 468 career assists.
- The Cougars have four players averaging double figures in Brzovic, Boyd, AJ Smith and current CAA Player of the Week Deywilk Tavarez.
- Towson is coming off a 65-61 overtime victory at UNCW on Thursday night. The Tigers grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds in the contest and held UNCW to 33.9% from the field, a season-low for the Seahawks. Towson, who was picked to finish first in the CAA, are 6-8 overall after the win.
- Tyler Tejada leads the Tigers with 17.4 points per game followed by Dylan Williamson with 12.4. Mekhi Lowery controls the glass with 6.1 rebounds per game.
- Tejada was named to the All-CAA Preseason First Team while junior Christian May was selected to the All-CAA Preseason Second Team. Williamson was named All-CAA Honorable Mention.
- Doors will open 1.5 hours prior to tip-off
- Concession stands will open when doors open, and the Cougar Spirit Shop will open one hour prior to tip-off.
