RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston freshman
Jumana Martin was named the Coastal Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week Monday.
Martin shared the weekly award with Hofstra's Nina Jioshvili-Ravva.
Martin was the backbone of the Charleston defense that went on the road and took two matches from Campbell. Martin averaged 4.63 digs per set and produced 10 total assists. On Friday, the defensive specialist had six assists and 17 digs along with 35 of the team's 69 receptions as CofC secured a four-set victory over the Camels. The Fort Mill, S.C., product followed that performance up with her seventh outing with 20-plus digs, posting 20 in Saturday's win.
Martin is the third Charleston freshman to earn a weekly award this year, joining
Caroline Noonan and
Makena Parthen.
The Cougars return home Oct. 10-11 to place North Carolina A&T in league play. Opening serves are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 2 p.m. from TD Arena with both matches airing live on FloCollege.
