
Men's Basketball Tops South Carolina State at Home

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team held South Carolina State to 29% shooting from the field in the second half to on their way to a 88-61 homecoming weekend victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- South Carolina State started a perfect 5-5 from the field before a 6-0 Cougar run, highlighted by an emphatic Mister Dean dunk, to take their first lead of the game at 13-12.
- Charleston responded to the Bulldogs hot start with a streak of their own, going a perfect 11-11 from the field during a seven-minute stretch to take a 32-24 edge.
- The Cougars went on a 13-2 run to help close out the half, holding the Bulldogs to just 1-13 from the field during the same stretch to enter the locker room up 50-37.
- Charleston opened the second half with a 14-1 run, causing four Bulldog turnovers. Chris Mack's team shot 52% from the field in the second half making 26 of 28 attempts in the paint to secure their seventh straight victory at home.

KEY COUGARS
- Five Cougars contributed double-figure scoring performances, led by Martin Kalu, Chol Machot, and Chris Davis Jr. with 12 each followed by Dean with 11 and Chadlyn Traylor with 10.
- Machot totaled four blocks, tied for the fifth most in a single game in school history.
- Dean dished out five assists to tie his career-high, while Christian Reeves grabbed a career-high ten rebounds.
- Jaxon Prunty contributed seven points and a career-high seven rebounds.
- Traylor was a perfect 5-5 from the field with five assists.
- Will Mortimore scored his first points as a Cougar, going 4-5 from the field all in the second half.

GAME NOTES
- Charleston totaled eight blocks, the highest of the Mack era, led by Machot's four.
- The Cougars shot 53% from the field compared to South Carolina State's 35%.
- Charleston outrebounded the Bulldogs 44-35.
- The Cougars dished out 22 assists on 32 made field goals with just seven turnovers. It marks the third time this season the Cougars have had single-digit turnovers.
- The Cougars, now 2-2 on the year, will return to TD Arena Monday, November 17 to host the Drake Bulldogs. Action is set for 7:00 p.m.
