
Men's Basketball Falls at Liberty in Field of 68 Tip-Off Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season with a 90-75 setback at Liberty on the opening night of the third annual Field of 68 Tip-Off.

- Liberty jumped out to a 12-4 lead before a 7-0 Cougar run featuring back-to-back Chol Machot buckets and a Martin Kalu triple brought the Cougars within one at 12-11.
- Charleston took their first lead of the game at 20-19 on a Jlynn Counter three with ten minutes remaining in the half.
- The Cougars went cold for a two-minute stretch before another Kalu triple ended the drought. Down by as much as nine, a Jaxon Prunty three and driving lay-up as time expired sent Charleston into the locker room down five 39-34. Kalu and Counter led the Cougars in the half with ten points each.
- Liberty took their largest lead out of the game out of the locker room on a pair of makes from behind the arc. The Cougars could never cut the deficit past ten for the remainder of the contest falling 90-75.
- Kalu led Charleston with a career-high 22 points, going 7-11 from the field, along with a career-high seven rebounds.
- Machot contributed a season-high 18 points adding nine rebounds, one shy of recording a second straight double-double
- Prunty added ten points, going 4-7 from the field, followed by Jlynn Counter with eight points and six assists.
- Charleston outrebounded Liberty 33-31 and had 29 bench points compared to the Flames' eight.
- Charleston shot 49% from the field compared to Liberty's 54%.
- The Cougars move to 3-2 all-time against the Flames and 2-3 in the Field of 68 Tip-Off.

- Charleston, now 1-1 on the season, will have a quick turnaround before playing Florida Atlantic at Liberty Arena tomorrow, November 8. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
