
Cougars Close Out 2025 at Elon

ELON, N.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team closes out 2025 on the road at Elon for the program's first CAA away contest of the season on December 31. Action is set 2:00 p.m. at the Schar Center.

STORYLINES
- Charleston holds the 30-9 all-time series edge over the Phoenix, winning seven straight entering Wednesday's match dating back to 2021.
- The Cougars opened CAA play on Monday night at TD Arena with a 72-63 win over Drexel for the program's fourth straight victory, as well as the fourth straight conference season opener. Down 17-3 in the first half, the Cougars entered the locker room down six before taking the lead 90 seconds into the second half and never looking back.
- Reigning CAA Player of the Week Jlynn Counter led Charleston with his third straight 20+ point performance, recording a career-high 29 points on a career-high 11 made field goals. The graduate guard added six assists and five rebounds. He enters the game ranked ninth in the CAA in points per game (15.5).
- Preseason All-CAA First Team member Colby Duggan made his Cougar debut against Dragons after missing the opening 13 games due to injury. The junior contributed ten points in his return.
- Redshirt-sophomore Chol Machot currently ranks tenth in the nation in total blocks (34) and 18th in blocks per game (2.43). The Australia native has recorded a block in all but one contest this season. The big man had a big second half vs. Drexel, slamming home six second half dunks and a season-high seven made field goals.
- Charleston ranks within the top 50 nationally in both free throw attempts per game (24.9, 49th), and turnovers per game (10.2, 43rd).
- Five Cougars are currently averaging double-figure points per game led by Counter with 15.5 and followed by Connor Hickman with 12.8, Martin Kalu with 11.1, Machot with 10.0, and Duggan with 10.0.
- Elon enters the contest 9-5 overall, winning their CAA opener with a 103-91 triumph over Northeastern on Monday night at home. Kacper Klaczek and Chandler Cuthrell led the Phoenix with 28 points each. Klaczek recorded a double-double, adding 12 rebounds.
- Cuthrell leads Elon on the year averaging 21.6 points per game followed by Randall Pettus II with 13.9. Cuthrell also controls the glass, grabbing a team best 6.7 rebounds per game.
- Picked the finish 12th in the league, the Phoenix currently lead the league in four statistical categories including scoring offense, averaging 87.1 points per game, and three pointers per game, averaging 9.9 a contest. Cuthrell leads the CAA in field goal percentage (54%) and points per game.
