CHARLESTON, S.C. – No. 5 College of Charleston equestrian defeated Sacred Heart, 7-1 and No. 1 Dartmouth, 5-3, this weekend in its first NCEA home meets.
On Saturday, the Cougars dominated, take four of the possible five points in the fences. Maddi Cardelli earned MOP in the event, scoring a high of 87. In the flats, Charleston took all three points with Caroline Berg taking MOP with a score of 87.
Charleston continued its winnings ways against Dartmouth on Sunday, taking three of four points in the fences. Cardelli had a team-high 86 points for the Cougars. In the flats, the teams split the points, each taking two. Berg had a squad-best 85 points.
"Tremendous weekend for CofC equestrian, our team's hard work, simply worked," said head coach Natasha Vitkovic. "Saturday against Sacred Heart was our first home NCEA meet, and we were very happy with our riding and end result. We knew we had our work cut out for us day two against Dartmouth, however we dug in as an entire team and were able to remain focused, knocking off a No. 1 ranked team for the second time this year.
"Next up before the ECAC Single Discipline Championship, we host Centenary University March 15 and Berry College on March 16. We now switch gears to our final show of the regular IHSA season - back here at White Horses for our IHSA show Feb 15-16, which includes senior day on Sunday."
