Balanced Attack Leads Cougars to Season Sweep of Huskies

BOSTON, Mass. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team earned the season series sweep over Northeastern 73-63 behind four double figure scorers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ante Brzovic scored the Cougars first seven points in an early back-and-forth affair. Lazar Djokovic provided a catalyst on both ends of the court, recording two blocks and slam dunk to give Charleston a 16-14 lead with 11 minutes to play.
  • Charleston went on a 15-2 run to take a 24-14 lead before falling cold, going 1-7 from the field allowing the Huskies to come within three at 26-23.
  • The Cougars ended the half going 6-8 from the field, capped by Brzovic triple as time expired to take a 39-33 advantage into the break. Charleston shot 53% from the field in the half and caused eight Husky turnovers.
  • Charleston had an answer to every Northeastern attack out of the break, taking their largest lead of the night at 51-40 after a 7-0 run on another Brzovic drive to the basket.
  • Northeastern came within five at 60-55 with eight minutes to play but could not catch the Cougars, who finished the game going 5-7 from the field to seal the victory.


KEY COUGARS
  • Brzovic recorded his 13th 20+ point performance this season.
  • Deywilk Tavarez had 13 points and 11 rebounds for his first double double of the season.
  • Derrin Boyd and Djokovic rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 and ten respectively.
  • CJ Fulton dished out six assists to go with seven points and three rebounds.


GAME NOTES
  • The Cougars shot 52% from the field compared to the Huskies 39%
  • Charleston won the rebounding battle 37-35 and caused 12 Northeastern turnovers.
  • With the win, Chris Mack notched his 299th career victory.
UP NEXT
  • Charleston, now 21-7 and 11-4 in league play, will travel to Philadelphia on Saturday, February 22 to take on Drexel for the first and only meeting this season between the programs. Action is set for 12:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
