Charleston Tops North Carolina A&T

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team held on to defeat North Carolina A&T 66-63 Thursday night at TD Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lazar Djokovic started the game with a slam dunk off the feed from Derrin Boyd to kick start a 7-0 Cougar run going 5-5 from the field.
  • After the hot start, the Cougars struggled from the field going 1-7 with a two-minute scoring drought. A&T took their first lead of the contest 17-16 with 11 minutes to play in the half. Djordje Curcic took it back for Charleston less than a minute later with a make from deep.
  • The Cougars caused four turnovers in the final six minutes of the half and held the Aggies scoreless for the final two minutes of play to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room. Justas Stonkus led Charleston with seven points in the frame.
  • The teams traded points to start the second half before a 6-0 Cougar run highlighted by a Curcic three gave Charleston their largest lead of the game at 46-37 with 14 minutes to play.
  • Charleston came out of the under 16 media timeout going 5-5 from the field.
  • The Aggies did not go away and came within four at 60-56 with four minutes to play. Charleston did not score a field goal in the final four minutes to play as the Aggie cut to lead to one. Two clutch CJ Fulton free throws helped seal the victory.

  • Ante Brzovic had a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds.
  • Stonkus contributed 12 points followed by Boyd with nine.
  • Elijah Jones grabbed eight rebounds while Fulton dished out nine assists.  
UP NEXT
  • The Cougars, now 18-6 and 8-3 in CAA play, will return to TD Arena on Saturday, February 8 when the Elon Phoenix travel to TD Arena. Action is set for 6:00 p.m.
