MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Kennedy Rhue continued her scorching stretch at the plate with a three-run double in the sixth, giving College of Charleston a 4-2 win over Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at Patriots Point.
The Cougars won their fifth in a row and 13th in their past 18 to move within one game of the .500 mark at 18-19. The victory also snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Chanticleers (28-9).
Game Summary
- The Cougars trailed 2-0 and had one out in the bottom of the sixth before starting their dramatic rally.
- Jay Wrightsman, who played at Coastal for three seasons before joining the Cougars this year, singled to begin the comeback.
- Austy Miller singled in a run, and walks to Leela Langston and Audri Bates loaded the bases with two outs.
- Rhue, facing an 0-2 count, tucked a ground ball just inside the line at first to plate all three runners and give Charleston the win.
- In the past three games, Rhue has eight hits in eight official at bats and the senior is 15-for-24 (.625) with eight RBI while hitting safely in seven of past eight contests.
- Rhue's 8-for-8 run has raised her season batting average from .286 to a team-leading .342.
- Mackenzie Mathis earned her sixth win, striking out six and allowing only one earned run to lower her season ERA to 3.09.
