HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – College of Charleston stormed back for four runs in the seventh inning in a 6-4 win over Hofstra in the opening game of a CAA doubleheader on Friday in Hempstead, N.Y.
The Pride bounced back to take a 6-2 victory in the nightcap. The split leaves the Cougars with a conference record of 13-7 (23-23 overall) and enables them to retain a two-game lead over Hofstra (15-23, 11-9) for fifth place in the CAA.
Austy Miller had a double and single in the opener and added another single in the nightcap to run her hitting streak to eight games. She is 13-for-27 (.481) with eight runs scored and eight RBI over that stretch.
Game 1 Summary
- With Hofstra leading 4-2, Karlee Hughes and Bricelyn Bedenbaugh started the Charleston rally in the seventh with leadoff singles.
- After the next two batters were retired, Miller produced an RBI double and Kennedy Rhue followed with a two-run single to put the Cougars in front.
- Leela Langston added an insurance tally with a double to cap the four-run uprising.
- Kendall Thackston allowed four runs (two earned) in the first two innings before blanking the Pride on only two hits the rest of the way.
- Thackston struck out a season-high six in her third complete game of the season.
Game 2 Summary
- Langston singled and scored to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the second before Hofstra scored three in the fourth.
- Langston added two more hits for a season-high three and raised her batting average in CAA games to a team-leading .431.
- Halle Cannon had also had three hits, including a double, to match her career high and scored on a Jay Wrightsman double in the seventh.
- Ryley Kutter struck out six, one shy of her career high, in 5.2 innings.Â
