Mathis Selected CAA Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston pitcher Mackenzie Mathis has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after a three-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory over Hofstra on Saturday.
Mathis struck out eight and did not issue a walk in helping the Cougars clinch their fifth series win of the year. She retired the side in order four times, struck out three batters in the second and finished off the Pride by fanning the final two hitters.
Mathis enters the final two weeks of the regular season ranked ninth in the CAA with a 2.76 ERA and fourth with 91 strikeouts. She has been particularly effective in conference play with six of her eight wins including all three shutouts.
Her 1.45 ERA in CAA games is just .02 shy of the top spot, and she has held opponents to a .197 batting average while striking out 46 in league play.
