ELON, N.C. – College of Charleston lost the opening game of its CAA series at Elon by a score of 3-2 in nine innings. The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak for the Cougars while dropping them out of a first-place tie in the conference standings.

Game Summary

• The Cougars scored in the first when a single by Kennedy Rhue brought home Jay Wrightsman, who led off the game with a double.
• A groundout by Karly Smith scored Karlee Hughes to make it 2-0 in the second.
• Elon scored a run in its half of the second and tied it in the fifth on a two-out solo home run.
• Charleston got three hits but could not score in its half of the ninth before a two-out single plated the winner for the Phoenix.
• Julia Sitterding matched her career high with three hits, and Rhue and Leela Langston both had two.
• Rhue has at least two hits in each of the past four games and has hit safely in eight of the past nine.
• Kendall Thackston took the loss despite allowing only two hits and one run in 3.2 innings of relief.
