Penfield Earns Second Rookie of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston third baseman Landon Penfield was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.
The freshman batted .333 (6-for-18) with three doubles, three home runs, seven runs scored and 10 RBI. Penfield recorded two extra-base hits in all three ballgames versus Hofstra. He had a double, home run and four RBI in Charleston's 11-4 win on Thursday and doubled twice in Friday's 6-2 win. In Saturday's contest, Penfield hit a solo homer and game-tying grand slam.
Penfield earned his second weekly honor, previously earning Rookie of the Week March 3. He is one of six Cougars to earn a weekly award. Graduate Avery Neaves (Feb. 17) and junior Payton Frehner (Feb. 24) and redshirt junior Ethan Plyler (March 24) were named Player of the Week, junior Jake Brink garnered Pitcher of the Week (April 14) and freshman Alex LaCoste (May 12) collected a Rookie of the Week honor.
Charleston faces William & Mary in the Opening Round of the CAA Championship on Wednesday, May 21. First pitch from Patriots Point is set for noon.
