CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston sailing had a successful opening weekend of racing, winning the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA) Top 9 and placing second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta.

CofC earned a first-place finish at its first home regatta of the fall with a total of 87 points. The Cougars had a commanding victory as Jacksonville and Miami earned second and third place finishes with 139 and 164 points, respectively.

Charleston's A boat of
Benjamin Dufour,
Clara Murphy and
Marina Dryer captured 26 points while
Jonnie Ciffolillo,
Andrea Melnik and
Aidan Iaconis brought in 61 points.

In Chicago, the Cougars claimed second out of nine schools with 22 points. Navy won the regatta with 21 points and Brown finished third with 23.

Charleston returns to action next weekend for the SAISA Open Singlehanded Champs (Sept. 13-14), SAISA Women's Singlehanded Champs (Sept. 13-14), SAISA North Top 6 (Sept. 13), Shields Trophy (Sept. 13-14) and Ashley River Trophy (Sept. 14).
