
No. 1 Charleston Cruises by No. 4 Stony Brook; Advances to CAA Championship Game

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (26-5, 16-2) led wire-to-wire and cruised to a 79-49 victory over Stony Brook (19-14, 12-6) in the Credit Union 1 CAA Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals at CareFirst Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars will play in the CAA Championship game against the winner of No. 3 Drexel vs. No. 10 Hofstra on CBS Sports Network at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

- Sophia Tougas and Taryn Barbot both hit early threes as Charleston jumped out to a 10-4 lead.
- The Cougars continued to blitz the Seawolves as Jami Hill capped an 18-4 Cougars' run and CofC took a 25-8 lead into the second quarter.
- Tougas led the way with seven second quarter points as Charleston won the stanza 18-9 and took a 43-17 edge into the break.
- Taryn Barbot led all scorers with 11 third quarter points as she helped Charleston take a 65-33 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
- Five different Cougars scored in the final stanza and Charleston cruised to a 79-49 win over Stony Brook at CareFirst Arena on Saturday afternoon.
- Junior Taryn Barbot added a game-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds, six steals and five assists.
- Junior Taylor Barbot recorded her second double-double of the year as she posted totals of 10 points and 11 assists. She also had three steals against the Seawolves.
- Junior Jami Hill tallied 10 points.
- Redshirt senior Sophia Tougas posted 13 points and hit three triples.
- Charleston forced 20 Stony Brook turnovers, collected 16 steals and scored 22 points off turnovers.

- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,656th career point as a Cougar and is fifth on Charleston's all-time scoring list.
- Taryn Barbot scored her 605th point of the 2025-26 season and set a new Charleston Division I single-season record, breaking her own record of 583 points that she scored last season.
- Taryn Barbot also recorded her 600th career rebound and scored 20+ points for the 16th time this year.
- Taylor Barbot tallied a game-high 11 assists and amassed the double-digit assist mark for the third time this season. Her 11 assists are the third most in a game in CAA Tournament history. Today was her eighth game of recording at least eight assists this year.
- Saturday was the first time CofC held an opponent below 20 points in the first half of a conference postseason game since it held Chattanooga to 19 March 8, 2009, in the SoCon semifinals. Charleston upset the top seed 53-51 that day.
- This is the first conference postseason game in which CofC has held their opponents to less than 10 points in both the 1st and 2nd quarters since quarters began in 2015-16.
- Sunday's CAA Championship appearance will be the Cougars' first ever appearance in the CAA Title game.
- CofC is seeking their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
- The Cougars earned their 26th win today. The 26 wins are a new Division I program record.

- Hofstra became the first No. 10 seed to reach the CAA Tournament Semifinals as the Pride upset No. 7 Towson 72-71 on Thursday before knocking of No. 2 Campbell 55-50 on Friday
- The Pride have three players who have averaged double figures in their first two CAA Tournament games. Senior guard Chloe Sterling leads the team with 13.5 points per contest, while senior guard is posting 13 points per game and senior guard Emma Von Essen is averaging 12.5 points in the CAA Tournament.
- Hofstra is 10-21 overall.
- Charleston is 7-14 all-time against Drexel.
- This year, the Cougars defeated the Dragons 74-64 in their lone matchup on January 16.
- Drexel finished 13-5 in CAA play and earned the No. 3 seed in the CAA Tournament. The Dragons are 21-9 overall.
- Drexel opened its CAA Tournament with a 68-53 win over No. 6 Elon on Friday night.
- The Dragons are led by graduate guard Amaris Baker who made the All-CAA First Team and is had 16 points in their CAA Quarterfinal game. Additionally, junior guard Laine McGurk who made the All-CAA Second Team had eight points in Drexel's win over Elon. Freshman guard Molly Rullo had 10 points in the Dragons' opening game, while junior forward Deja Evans had nine points on Friday night.
