Men's Golf Takes Third at CAA Championship

ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's golf team finished in third place at the 2026 CAA Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday at Dataw Island Club.
The Cougars finished -17, four strokes behind second place Elon. UNCW won the title at -38. After concluding the opening round in fifth place, Charleston bounced back to secure a top three team finish.
Loran Appel led Charleston with a T4 (-6) finish, playing all three rounds at or under par to earn All-Tournament honors. The junior recorded six birdies during Tuesday's final round. Nevill Ruiter joined Appel in the top ten at ninth after a bogey-free, 4-under final round for the Cougars' top round of the tournament.
Charleston led the field in total eagles, collecting four as a team over the three rounds. Appel sank the second most birdies in the field with 15, followed by Johan Bredenkamp with 14 total.
The Cougars will now look to the 2026 NCAA Men's Golf Selection show on Wednesday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. to learn their postseason fate.
