With the win the Lady Bulldogs improved to 1-2, while the Cougars fell to 0-2.
Rhem had 11 points and four rebounds in the first half as S.C. State took a 32-19 lead at intermission. The Lady Bulldogs closed the opening 20 minutes with a 25-9 run over the final 13:08.
Ashaki Brown's 3-pointer with 12:38 left in the game capped a 21-7 run by S.C. State to start the second half that gave the Lady Bulldogs a 53-26 lead.
Evena Morency added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds for S.C. State. Charleston got 12 points and five rebounds from Patrice Bryant. Rachel King had a career-high 11 rebounds for the Cougars.
The Lady Bulldogs shot 38.7 percent from the floor for the game connecting on 24-of-62 from the field, while the Cougars hit just 24.6 percent (16-65). Both teams had 50 rebounds.
The Cougars are in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd when they travel to UNC Wilmington for a 7:00 tipoff. S.C. State plays at Liberty on Thursday, Dec. 4th at 6:00.
