#articleRelated { display: none !important; } Nicole Rhem scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while teammates Melaney Denson and Latoya Dent added 15 points each as South Carolina State downed the College of Charleston, 72-47, in women's college basketball action before 1,277 at John Kresse Arena on Saturday.

With the win the Lady Bulldogs improved to 1-2, while the Cougars fell to 0-2.

Rhem had 11 points and four rebounds in the first half as S.C. State took a 32-19 lead at intermission. The Lady Bulldogs closed the opening 20 minutes with a 25-9 run over the final 13:08.

Ashaki Brown's 3-pointer with 12:38 left in the game capped a 21-7 run by S.C. State to start the second half that gave the Lady Bulldogs a 53-26 lead.

Evena Morency added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds for S.C. State. Charleston got 12 points and five rebounds from Patrice Bryant. Rachel King had a career-high 11 rebounds for the Cougars.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 38.7 percent from the floor for the game connecting on 24-of-62 from the field, while the Cougars hit just 24.6 percent (16-65). Both teams had 50 rebounds.

The Cougars are in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd when they travel to UNC Wilmington for a 7:00 tipoff. S.C. State plays at Liberty on Thursday, Dec. 4th at 6:00.
