The Cougars fall to 0-3 on the year, while the Seahawks even their record to 2-2.
Cougar Rachel King exploded for 17 points in the first half with her four-for-four mark from beyond the three-point line to lead Charleston to the 31-27 halftime lead. Charleston had a 10-point lead with 10:31 left in the first half but saw that whittled down to four points as the Seahawks went on a 5-1 run to end the first 20 minutes.
UNC Wilmington started the second half with an 8-0 run to take the 35-31 lead before Shanna Mickens' lay-up at 16:00 ended the Cougar drought. Charleston cut the Seahawk lead back to one at 41-40 with 10:16 left before UNCW went on a 12-3 run over the next 5:52 to put the game out of reach at 53:43 with 4:24 to go in the game. The Cougars got to within seven on several occasions after that but could not get any further to drop the final 62-53.
King ended the game with 23 points to lead the Cougar effort. Patrice Bryant and Eliza Kucharska each pulled down seven boards for Charleston. Isom's 22 points and 12 rebounds were career-highs. Cherie Lead had 18 points to follow Isom and the Seahawks.
The Cougars were out-rebounded in the game 47-28, but had less turnovers, 20-15. Charleston shot 41.4 percent from the field in the first half but were limited to 29.6 in the second to end the game with a 35.7 percentage. The Cougars were six-for-nine in three-pointers in the first half but converted on two-of-six in the second for the 53.3 percentage. The Seahawks shot 45.8 from the field for the game.
The Cougars host Appalachian State at the John Kresse Arena Dec. 8th at 7:00 PM to open their conference schedule, while UNCW travels to East Carolina Dec. 13th for a 7:00 PM contest.
