The Cougars and Mountaineers went back and forth in the game's opening minutes and the scored was tied at 10 six minutes into the game. The Cougars led 15-14 midway through the first half but then proceeded to go on a 20-11 run to make the score 35-25. Eliza Kucharska converted the lay-up with 14 seconds left to open the Cougars largest lead of the half at 15 points.
Charleston continued to grow the lead in the second half and when Bryant canned a three pointer the Cougars led 70-42 with 8:45 to play in the second half. The Mountaineers tightened the game up in the final eight minutes of the game though and ended the game on a 17-5 run.
Lindsay Smith paced the Mountaineers with 14 points and Jamie Bennett grabbed a career high eight rebounds in her first collegiate start. Jessica Jank also reached double figures with 10 points.
The Cougars out shot the Mountaineers 50.9% to 34.4% from the field. Rachel King set a career high with seven steals.
Wilson is now just six wins away from 200 in her College of Charleston's career (194-67). She coached at CofC from 1976-1984 and then coached from South Carolina from 1984-1997). Wilson has achieved a 425-216 (.663) record in her coaching career.
Both teams take time off to take final exams before returning to the court next week. Appalachian State travels to take on UNC Asheville on December 18 at 7:00. The Cougars host three home games next week starting with Chattanooga next Monday night.
