#articleRelated { display: none !important; } Three Cougars posted straight set shutouts as the women's tennis team defeated East Carolina, 7-0, this afternoon at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The College of Charleston picks up its first win of the season to go to 1-2 overall.

The only loss for the Cougars came at the first doubles position, where Raluca Baicu and Kirstin Buchanan defeated Gabriella Moreira and Maxine Capewell 8-3. Charleston rebounded with wins in the other two doubles to pick up its first point of the day. Rachel Magory and Lauren Stewart defeated Cristina Meilicke and Gillie Bailey, 8-6, while Whitney Malina and Ashley Willis took care of Sara Boseman and Ashley Perkinson, 8-1.

In singles action, Magory, Stewart and Willis picked up the 6-0, 6-0 shutouts over Buchanan, Boseman and Perkinson, respectively. Other scores included Whitney Malina's 6-4, 6-2 win over Baicu and Capewell's 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) victory over Bailey. Andreea Niculescu defeated ECU's Meilicke, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7) at the number four spot.

The Cougars host Columbia College Feb. 8th in a 10:30 AM match at Patriots Point. The Pirates will take on the same team at 3:00 PM at Patriots Point, also.
