Furman began the match by claiming the doubles point in decisive fashion. Mary Neill Hagood and Marti Morris teamed at No. 2 doubles to down Rachel Magory and Lauren Stewart 8-0. The Lady Paladins clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win by Caroline Bentley and Jacqueline Eckert over Charleston's Gabriela Moreira and Maxine Capewell and No. 2 doubles.
Bentley claimed the first singles point for the Lady Paladins with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Capewell at No. 4,
giving her a 3-0 singles record in the tournament and the Most Outstanding Player award. Morris put Furman up 3-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Andrea Niculescu at No. 5 singles. The Cougars picked up a win when Whitney Malina topped Eckert 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, followed by a 6-4, 6-3 win from Stewart over Furman's Bonnie Baird.
The Lady Paladins had a 3-2 lead with two matches left on the courts when Hagood took control in her third set and defeated Magory 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to clinch the match 4-2.
With the win, Furman finished a perfect 13-0 against SoCon opponents this season. The Lady Paladins have also earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which begins May 14.
