#articleRelated { display: none !important; } The doubles point proved to be the deciding factor as the College of Charleston edged South Carolina State, 4-3, in women's tennis action this afternoon at the tennis center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The loss was the Bulldogs' first of the season and gave the Cougars a .500 record for the first time this season.

South Carolina State drops to 8-1 on the season, while Charleston improves to 2-2.

The singles matches ended knotted at 3-3 as South Carolina State took victories over Rachel Magory at #2 (6-2, 4-6, 7-5), Maxine Capewell at #3 (6-2, 6-0) and Chelsea Albertz at #4 (6-2, 1-6, 6-0). Charleston won at the #1 spot with Gabriella Moreira taking the 6-1, 6-3 win over Vesna Popac. Charleston's Lauren Stewart defeated Gisel Brito 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, at #5, while Priscilla Roberts took the win over Alexis Panton 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 at the #6 spot.
Charleston took two doubles wins to earn the deciding point as Moreira/Stewart defeated Borisev/Brito 8-0, and Marks/Roberts defeated Panton/Popac 9-7.

The Cougars travel to Coastal Carolina March 2nd in a game being made up from last week. The match is set to start at 4:00 PM. The Bulldogs host Savannah State Feb. 25th at 1:00 PM.
