The Cougars posted an 11-16 overall record and a 7-11 mark in the Southern Conference, earning the tournament's eighth seed. Furman comes in as the ninth seed with a 9-19 overall record and a 5-13 league record.
The two teams split the regular season series with the Cougars taking the 52-50 win at the Kresse Arena and the Paladins earning the 64-55 overtime win at Timmons Arena.
Furman and Charleston met in the 2003 Southern Conference tournament quarterfinals, with the Paladins coming away with the 77-56 win. Charleston has won its last four tournament first round games, three of them coming at McAlister Fieldhouse.
The Chattanooga women's basketball team finished the 2005-06 regular season unscathed in Southern Conference action to earn the number one seed in the tournament. The tournament commences Thursday, March 2 with the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday taking place at McAlister Field House on the campus of The Citadel before moving to the North Charleston Coliseum for the semifinals and finals.
The Lady Mocs have now earned the No. 1 seed in the SoCon women's basketball tournament for four consecutive seasons. Chattanooga, which has not fallen in a contest since November, concluded the 2005-06 season in the midst of the nation's longest winning streak at 23 games.
The Lady Mocs will square off against the winner of the Furman/Charleston game on Friday, March 3.
UNC Greensboro won its final four games to earn the second seed in the tournament. Davidson claimed the third seed and Appalachian State, which ended the regular season by winning a season-high five straight games, surged into the fourth seed, setting up a showdown at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 3 with rival and fifth-seeded Western Carolina.
The semifinals and finals of the SoCon women's basketball tournament will be televised by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), beginning with semifinal No. 1 at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 4. The final is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Sunday, March 5.
Tickets for the Southern Conference Men's and Women's Tournament are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets and at the North Charleston Coliseum box office. Single session tickets are $12 or a tournament book for all sessions is $60. Tickets are also available through SoCon member institution ticket offices.
