CofC defeats UNC Greensboro 4-0 to Advance

Third-seeded College of Charleston defeated sixth-seeded UNC Greensboro,4-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championships. The Cougars improve to 13-10 while the Spartans conclude the 2006 season at 7-16.
The College of Charleston started off the match well, earning the doubles point to by virtue of wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Payten Ellington and Chelsea Albertz defeated Emily Wade and Erica Zabkar 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Maxine Capewell and Ashley Finnegan won an 8-3 decision at the No. 2 position.
In singles action, the Cougars recorded victories at the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions to put away the Spartans. Ashley Finnegan defeated Lourdas Maron 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, while Payten Ellington recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sophie Rychik at No. 5. Jenna Marks' 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sarah Templeton sealed the win for the Cougars.
The College of Charleston will now move on to face Davidson in the semifinals of the 2006 Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championships at the Farmfield Tennis Center in Charleston, SC, with the first serve set for 10 am.
