Cougars Finish 10th at Cougar Classic

Freshman Steffi Kirchmayr shot a 73 in the third round to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team to a 10th-place finish at the Cougar Classic held this week at Yeaman's Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
"It was a good start to the season for us," said CofC Head Women's Golf Coach Jamie Futrell. "It helps us realize we are going to be competitive in the NCAA East Region again this year."
Seminole Caroline Westrup shot a tournament record 66 today to lead Florida State to the one-stroke victory over North Carolina with an 873. The Tarheels, who totaled an 874, were paced by individual medalist winner Lauren Hunt, who shot a three-round total of 210. Tennessee shot an 876 to finish third and in fourth was Louisiana State with an 878. Rounding out the top five was Alabama with an 887.
South Florida posted its second hole-in-one this tournament. Christina Jones aced hole six during the third round. This follows Danielle Ronderos' hole-on-one at hole 13 during the first round Monday.
Kirchmayr finished the tournament with a 216, just six strokes from Hunt, to finish tied for fifth.
"Steffi (Kirchmayr) started off her collegiate career on a great note. This is definitely a finish we can build on going into the rest of the year."
Following Kirchmayr was Megan Miller with a three-day total of 228 and a tie at 43rd. Fiona Puyo tied for 45th with a 229 and tied for 63rd was Dinah Plyler with a 235. Rounding out the Cougar effort was Courtney Brink with a 249, for 92nd.
Kelly White led the Cougars competing as individuals with a tie at 57th with her 232. Emily Rapp finished tied for 60th with her 234 and tied for 85th was Carolin Christiansson with her 242. Tied for 90th was Amber Kuss with a 247 and tied for 94th was Danielle Lugo with a 257.
The Cougars are next in action Sept. 25-26th as they host the Unlimited Potential/Myrtle Beach Classic held at Shaftesbury Glen Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
