Corson, Gustaitis Place Second In Invitational

College of Charleston's woman's cross country team finished second and the men finished third in The Citadel Invitational on Saturday at James Island County Park.
The women finished with 37 points, behind Furman with 33 points in the 5K race. The men trailed Furman (29 points) and host The Citadel (40 points) in the 8K race.
Karen Corson paced Charleston with a time of 18:59.11 to finish second, and Max Gustaitis posted a second place finish with a 26:17.33.
Wells Trompeter (19:01.04), Amy Laughlin (19:16.45), Heather Clark (19:53.39) and Ashley Arnold (20:07.65) finished in the Top 15 for fourth, fifth, 11th and 15th place, respectively. The men had three more runners in the Top 15 – Aubrey Darnell (27:16.21), Michael Rella (27:43.75) and Tim Faugl (27:45.68) – for eighth, 14th and 15th place, respectively.
Sarah Massenburg finished 17th with a time of 20:16.89, followed by Lyndsay Smith (21:00.92, 21st) and Sawyer Langston (21:47.97, 27th). In the men's race, J.C. Koziel finished 18th with a time of 27:58.41, followed by Nate Attard who posted a time of 35:25.43 for 32nd.
Both teams will travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to compete in the Winthrop Fall Classic on Oct. 14, before the Southern Conference championship meet on Oct. 28.
