
Women's Cross Country Places Fifth in CAA Championship

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The College of Charleston cross country teams competed in the CAA Championship Friday, October 31 in Lakewood, N.J. The women placed fifth of 12 teams in the 6k while the men placed sixth of 11 teams in the 8k.
Taking a top 25 finish for the women was Savannah Stoutt with a time of 21:48.8 to match her previous personal best and place 23rd in the field. Stoutt scored 21 points for Charleston.
The next three Cougars to cross the line came back-to-back with Jeorgi Gavalas leading the pack. Gavalas placed 31st with a time of 21:57.0 to set a new personal record. The sophomore scored 28 points. Trailing Gavalas was Cayden Crismon also with a new personal best in the 6k with a time of 21:58.5. Abby Mogg finished fourth for Charleston and posted a 10 second personal best of 22:00.2 to place 33rd in the conference field.
The final scoring runner for The College was Bella Hudson crossing the line in 21:59.2 minutes. Hudson scored 33 points to give Charleston the result of 141 points.
The women placed ahead of Stony Brook, Hofstra, Campbell, Towson, Hampton, North Carolina A&T and UNCW. Elon took the conference title Friday morning.
Declan Byrne finished 19th for the men in the conference championships with a time of 24:26.8 to score 19 points, posting a personal best Friday morning. Andrew Catapano crossed the line second for Charleston while running a 25:05.10 8k. Catapano scored 34 points to Charleston's total score.
Will Buckley finished third for Charelston and 40th overall while running a time of 25:08.70.
Finn Myatt and Thomas Flaig took the last two scoring opportunities for the Cougars placing 42nd and 51stand scoring 40 and 44 points. Charleston men scored 175 points overall.
