
CofC Women?s Tennis Wins First Match of Season over Winthrop, 5-2

The College of Charleston women's tennis team won its first match of the season by earning a 5-2 victory over Winthrop on Feb. 14 at the Patriots Point Tennis Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The victory improves CofC record to 1-1 overall, while Winthrop drops to 0-6.
The Cougars dropped the doubles point, but won five out of the six singles matches for the victory. Freshmen Anna Lee Evans and Laura Borza earned their first collegiate victories by winning each of their matches in straight sets. Junior Chelsea Albertz's 6-4, 6-3 win over Anna Paula Novaes clinched the team match for the Cougars. Junior Amanda Becker and senior Maxine Capewell also won their matches for CofC.

The Cougars will welcome back former College of Charleston players back on Feb. 17 for an alumni match beginning at 10:30 a.m. CofC will return to official action in matches on Feb. 19 in matches against South Carolina State at 12:30 p.m. and the University of Albany at 6:00 pm.
