
Track and Field Finish Strong at Furman

The College of Charleston's women's track and field team faced cold temperatures and blustery winds at the 9th Annual Furman Invitational, but had good times, according to head coach Amy Schuckert.
Summer Chambless finished with a time of 13.88 seconds in the 100-meter dash, behind East Tennessee's Jenny Knox who broke the meet record with her 12.45 time.
Heather Collier and Emily Jackson finished the 200-meter dash with times of 26.60 and 26.71 for second and third, respectively.
Amy Laughlin had a Top 5 finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.02 and finished first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:51.71. Wells Trompeter trailed Laughlin with a time of 4:54.76, and Heather Clark posted a 5:05.31 to finish fourth.
Katie Hedley crossed the finish line to finish second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:31.66. Karen Corson finished fourth with a time of 18:49.38.
The College of Charleston had first place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays with times of 50.22 and 4:04.28, respectively.
In the field events, Dominique Boone and Heather Collier jumped 5-0 for second place tie in the high jump, while Alicia Sims had a mark of 4-10.
Jessica Cumbee took top honors in the pole vault with a mark of 9-06. Boone had second place mark of 36-07 ? in the triple jump.
Chambless had the top mark in the javelin throw at 92 feet, and Lyndsay Smith and Clark had marks of 50-05 and 34-04, respectively,
The College of Charleston will next compete at the Chanticleer Classic on Apr. 14 in Conway, S.C.
