
Charleston track and field opens spring season at North Carolina

Freshman Becky Stewart earned a top-five finish in the one-mile run with a time of 5:22.58 as the College of Charleston track and field team opened its 2008 schedule at the Eddie and Jo Smith UNC Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. Erin Stoddard followed with a 5:41.20 which was good for 15th.
The distance medley relay team ran a 14:08.46 to finish second to UNC. The 4x4 relay team posted a top-10 finish with a 4:13.72 which was good for eighth.
Mary Zolga recorded a 1:01.60 in the 400-meter dash on her way to an 11th-place finish. Zolga was followed by Emily Jackson (1:03.99) and Brynne Johnson (1:04.64) who finished 18th and 19th, respectively.
Sakskia Kalmeijer ran a 27.72 for a 17th-place finish in the 200-meter dash, while Isabel Boersma who finished 19th with a 28.19. Rounding out the day for the Cougars was Summer Chambless who notched a 10'8" in the pole vault.
The track and field team will be back in action February 1-2 when they return to Chapel Hill, N.C. Results will be available at www.CofCSports.com.
