The College of Charleston women's tennis team won five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 win over Massachusetts earlier in the day then completed its doubleheader sweep with a 7-0 blanking of Northern Iowa in the nightcap at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point on Wednesday.
Charleston, which plays host to Charleston Southern at 2 p.m. on March 27, improved to 15-2 overall. The Minutewomen fell to 6-8, while Northern Iowa is 8-5. The Cougars have won six straight matches and 12 of their last 13 overall.
In the opener, Chelsea Albertz downed Masha Pozar 6-4, 7-6 at No. 1 singles, Laura Borza beat Candynce Boney 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 and Holly Dowse blanked Kaitlyn Carpenter 6-0, 6-0 at No.3 singles.
Anna Lee Evans and Amanda Becker earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
In the match against NIU, Link Leskosky earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Meghana Paritala 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles play. Laura Borza beat Sampada Kanade at No 2 singles 7-5, 6-0 and Holly Dowse downed Laia Gonzalez-Garrido 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3.
Anna Lee Evans at No. 4, Amanda Becker at No. 5 and Keely Mulligan at No. 6 cruised to straight set wins in singles play.
