
College of Charleston Announces 2008-09 Hall of Fame Inductees

Former College of Charleston men's basketball player Mike Beckett, sailor Andy Lovell and volleyball player Suzanne Lowry have been selected for membership into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame, it was announced today.
Beckett played in 113 games from 1989-92 and his 1,204 career points ranks 18th on the school's all-time scoring list. He led the Cougars in 1991 in three-point field goal percentage and in free-throw percentage in 1990 and 1991. Beckett was the first Cougar to record 1,000 points, grab 300 rebounds and dish out 400 assists.
Lovell sailed for the Cougars from 1989-92 and was a two-time All-American and a two-time honorable mention All-American. In 1991, Lovell was named Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Sailor-of-the-Year. Lovell helped the Cougars win the Leonard B. Fowle trophy as the best overall team in college sailing in 1988. In 1991, he led the Cougars to a win in the singlehanded and sloop national competition. He also won the sloop title in 1992. In 1996, he placed second at the Olympics Trials in the Laser Class and in 2004 repeated it in the Star Class.
Lowry played volleyball for the Cougars from 1989-92 and ranks first in career kills per game, attack percentage and points per game. Lowry ranks in the school's top five in career solo blocks, total blocks and total kills. Lowry was a Trans America (now Atlantic Sun) All-Conference first team member in 1991 and 1992. She was named the TAAC's Player of the Year in 1992.
The Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held in the hospitality suite of the Carolina First Arena at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14. The cost to attend is $15 per person.
