Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) scored 28 points while Casaan Breeden (Clio, S.C.) added 14 points leading the College of Charleston to a hard-fought 67-64 win over UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference action before 2,383 at the Greensboro Coliseum on Monday.
The Cougars, who play host to Charleston Southern on Dec. 16, improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. UNCG is 2-5 and 1-1.
The Cougars led by as many as 10 points after Goudelock's 3-pointer with 5:27 left to play put them up 62-52.
But the Spartans went on a 10-2 run from that juncture, pulling within 64-62 on Kyle Randall's layup with 1:33 remaining. Breeden hit a 3 for Charleston's final points after a UNC-Greensboro timeout, though, and the Spartans missed on two 3-point attempts in the final 13 seconds. The last was a 3-point attempt by Kyle Randall at the buzzer.
Breeden finished with 14 points and Jeremy Simmons (Lithonia, Ga.) added 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks for the Cougars. Goudelock hit four 3-pointers and Breeden sank three more for the Cougars, who connected on 10 3-pointers. Charleston, which has 29 blocks over the past three games, finished with nine blocked shots.
Ben Stywall paced UNC-Greensboro with 21 points and 14 boards, 11 off the offensive glass. Brandon Evans added 10 points off the bench.
