In the next two sets the Terriers closed the gap and picked up a key third set victory to extend the match to a fourth game.
In the final set it was the power of Phillips who terminated five kills on nine attemps with no errors (.556 hitting percentage) to lead the Cougars. With the match tied at 10-10 the Cougars scored four of the next five points to build a 11-14 advantage.
CofC did not leave anything to chance, keeping the momentum on their side and closing the set and match with a 5-1 run, which ended with a Wofford ball handling error.
The Cougars don't have much time to rest as they make the short drive to Greenville, S.C., to battle the Furman Paladins tomorrow at 2p.m. The contest will be a re-match of the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament Championship Match, which CofC won 3-0 to advance to their sixth NCAA Tournament.
