CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston volleyball team won its seventh consecutive match as they dropped the Charleston Southern Buccaneers 3-0 Tuesday night at the CSU Field House (25-18, 25-14, 25-19).
Senior Cole Dawley picked up her 14th double-double of the season with 26 assists and 15 digs. Dawley's 17th dig, coming in the second game of the match moved her into fourth-place on the Cougars all-time assist list. She now has 3,381 for her career.
Senior Whitney Russell (11 kills) and junior Elyse Chubb (eight kills, .467 hitting percentage) helped the Cougars (21-5, 9-1) hit .264 as a team, compared to just .066 for the Bucaneers (10-16, 4-7).
Four other Cougars had at least five kills, junior Sarah Havel (6), senior Ginny Phillips (6) and sophomore Kelly Kolich (5).
Havel, who earned Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Southern Conference earlier this week, led the team in blocks with four. Havel's one solo block moved her into ninth on the all-time list for the category.
The Cougars held Buccaneer standout Amanda Hill to just seven kills and forced her into eight attack errors. Hill came into the contest ranked 12th in NCAA Division I in blocks per set at 4.80.
For CofC it was their eighth 3-0 win of the season and the Cougars have now won 14 of their last 15 matches.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday as they resume conference play against Appalachian State.
