CofC is riding a four-match win streak that includes three conference victories and a non-conference win over Massachusetts. Most recently, head coach Angelo Anastopoulo's squad handed Elon its first conference loss of the season, 5-2, to remain one of only two teams that are undefeated in league play.
Senior Laura Borza (Toronto, Ontario/Mary Ward Secondary) has won her last five matches in both singles and doubles competition. She and fellow senior Anna Lee Evans (Vilas, N.C./Watauga) clinched the doubles point for Charleston on Mar. 24 against the Phoenix, earning an 8-5 victory at the No.2 spot. The pair is now 7-1 as partners, including 6-1 as the No. 2 seed.
Four of Borza's last five wins have come at the No. 4 spot. Her last three wins have come in straight sets over conference opponents. Borza is now 8-4 on the season in singles competition.
Illinois is coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 20 South Carolina that snapped a four-match win streak. Two members of the Illini, junior Marisa Lambropoulos and freshman Breanne Smutko, captured their fifth straight doubles match in the No. 3 spot, but the team lost the doubles point which proved to be the difference-maker in the match.
Top-seeded Leigh Finnegan and Megan Fudge are currently ranked 55th in the country by the ITA Poll. Fudge also holds the 119th spot in singles action, competing at the No. 1 and 2 spots. She holds a 16-8 record on the season and has won eight of her last 10 matches.
