CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston opened spring competition in full force this past weekend as they hosted the CofC Spring Tournament and went 4-0, taking all 10 games they played on Saturday, March 27. The tournament was held at the Carolina First Arena and featured the Cougars, North Florida, Charleston Southern and The Citadel.
Each team played three games in each match during the morning session regardless of score before advancing to a best of three format for championship play. CofC defeated the Ospreys of North Florida by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 15-13 in their opener before handing The Citadel a 3-0 loss (25-17, 25-21, 18-16) in their second game.
CofC then defeated UNF in the afternoon session 2-0 with 25-12 and 25-20 victories before wrapping up the tournament with a hard fought 25-20, 25-20 decision over an improving squad at The Citadel.
“It was a very good first day of competition” said head coach Jason Kepner. “We were able to get everyone a lot of playing time. No matter what the lineup was we were able to do some very good things and get the win. We have a few things to work on this week before we go on the road next weekend at Georgia Tech. I really like this team and how hard they are working this offseason.”
The Cougars are next in action when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. next weekend for the Atlanta Collegiate Invitational on April 4.
