
No. 69 Women?s Tennis Returns to Conference Action Against Wofford

CofC (14-9, 7-0 SoCon) had its four-match win streak snapped on Mar. 26, when the 39th-ranked Illini swept the team on its home court. The Cougars remain on top in the league as the only team still undefeated in conference play. Head coach Angelo Anastopoulo's squad is 7-0 in the SoCon for the second straight year. Furman, who was previously tied with Charleston for first place, fell to Samford 6-1 on Mar. 27 in Spartanburg, S.C.
Sophomore Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C./Page) battled 119th-ranked Megan Fudge of Illinois at the top spot in singles competition. The match went all the way to a tiebreaker third set before Newman gave up a 7-5, 2-6, 01 decision. Senior Laura Borza (Toronto, Ontario/Mary Ward Secondary) also went to a third-set tiebreaker against her opponent at the No. 4 spot. She eventually lost 7-5, 1-6, 0-1to Leah Finnegan.
Boraza and her partner, senior Anna Lee Evans (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview), pushed the Illini to a tiebreaker before eventually dropping a 8-7 (7-5) match at the No.2 doubles spot.
The Terriers (1-15, 0-5) are on the hunt for their first conference win after falling 7-0 to Samford on Mar. 28. Wofford's only victory came in the form of a 4-3 win over Presbyterian College, whom the Cougars were supposed to face on Mar. 17 before the match was rained out.
