LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Dena O'Brien improved dramatically on her 6K school record as the College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Southeast Regional Saturday.
The women's team finished 26th and the men's team finished 28th in the competition in what was one of the biggest races the Cougars have competed in all season with 35 women's teams and 32 men's teams.
O'Brien ran 57 seconds faster than the 21:37 6K she recorded at the Pre-National meet earlier this year, which stood as the previous school mark. Compared to last year in this meet, O'Brien has made huge strides as she finished 61st in 21:46 a season ago at the NCAA Regional on the same course.
On the men's side sophomore Andrew Nelson led the Cougars as he finished 152nd in 33:45, his time good for 10th in the school record book.
This race concluded the cross country season for the Cougars. Next up will be the indoor track & field season.
