CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's golf team will play host to the Pinehurst Challenge on April 4-5 at the Golf Club at No. 6 in Pinehurst, N.C.
The No. 97-ranked Cougars are among a 14-team tournament field which includes seven top 100 teams in Appalachian State, No. 79 Campbell, The Citadel, High Point, No. 93 Jacksonville State, No. 38 Minnesota, No. 85 Morehead State, Samford, South Alabama, South Carolina State, No. 95 Toledo, Winthrop and No. 77 Western Carolina in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. CofC last won the Pinehurst Challenge by eight strokes over WCU in the fall of 2009.
No. 6 is a par-72, 5,992-yard, Tom Fazio-designed course among the championship golf set at Pinehurst.
"We are looking forward to going back to Pinehurst," CofC head coach Jamie Futrell said. "We've had great success at Pinehurst No. 6 in the past. We are very comfortable on this golf course and with its surroundings. I believe this tournament will be just what the doctor ordered after two very tough outings for the Cougars (at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic on March 11-13 and Bryan Park Intercollegiate on March 25-27). We expect to get back to our winning ways this week."
Tournament play begins with 36 holes on Monday, April 4, followed by the final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, April 5. Team and individual results will be posted after each day of tournament play at www.CofCSports.com.
