CHARLESTON, S.C. - Freshman distance runner Adam Seften (Bolton, Conn.) and senior midfielder Hannah Gmerek (Anderson, S.C.) garnered College of Charleston Student-Athlete of the Week honors sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of Sept. 12.
Seften ran a career-best time of 25 minutes, 49 seconds in the 8K to lead the CofC men's cross country team to a first-place victory at the home-hosted College of Charleston Invitational held at Trophy Lakes on Sept. 10. He was one of three Cougar men to finish in the top 10 placing third at the meet in his CofC debut.
Gmerek played and started in the CofC women's soccer team's 1-1 weekend in a close 3-2 double-overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sept. 9 and a 2-1 win over Old Dominion on Sept. 11 at Patriots Point. She was named to the College of Charleston Cup All-Tournament Team after assisting on the game-winner against ODU on a header towards goal and teammate McCallie Jones deflecting it past the keeper. Gmerek currently leads the Cougars in assists (3) and is tied for second in points (5) this year.
