
Women?s Track & Field Concludes Successful Weekend of Competition at SoCon Championship

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's track & field team wrapped up competition in the 2012 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex. Senior Emily Smith and freshman Tiffany Sisk each earned individual titles and the team finished sixth with 62 points.
Smith, who won the high jump at the SoCon Indoor Championship repeated her performance and captured the title with a school record of 1.75 meters (5-08.75).
In the women's shot put freshman Tiffany Sisk won the individual title with a throw of 13.55 meters (44-05.50 feet). Sisk also earns a spot on the All-Freshman team for her efforts.
Senior Alyssa D'Orazio put herself on the award stand with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run as she clocked a time of 2:12.05.
Senior Kristen Wolfe, who won the 3,000-meter steeplechase on day one of the meet placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.10.
Sophomore Kaitlin McWhorter improved on her personal record by over 100 points in the heptathlon as she finished eighth with 3,933 points. Also scoring points for the Cougars was freshman Dyshia Parks with a jump of 10.72 meters (35-02.00 feet).
In the final event of the meet the Cougars 4X400-meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 3:58.19.
Up next select individuals will pursue qualifying marks for the NCAA East Preliminary May 24-26 at the University of North Florida.
"I'm really proud of our team," CofC Head Coach Amy Seago. "I'm proud of our seniors who will leave the program in a much better place than when they got here. We had some great performances this weekend and more importantly we did a great job supporting each other in all events."
