CHARLESTON, S.C. - After a week off from competition following the Winthrop Invitational, the College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams travel to Charlotte, N.C. Friday for the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational.
A total of 43 schools will be represented including Wake Forest, Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and several Southern Conference schools. Many of these schools will be back on Nov. 9 as the NCAA Southeast Regional will be ran on the same course at McAlpine Park in Charlotte.
The women's 6K race will be contested at 3:30 PM with the men's 8K race to follow starting at 4:15 PM.
The Cougars last competed Sept. 15 at the Winthrop Invitational where the women's team finished 12th and the men finished 14th. Sophomore Hayley McMahon led the women as she finished 15th in a time of 18:44.33 for the 5K race. Fellow sophomore Adam Seften led the men as he finished 36th in 26:04.77 for the 8K race.
CofC head coach Amy Seago said the women's team has done a great job in workouts and are looking forward to the meet.
"This will be a huge meet in terms of the number of schools," Seago said. "We are looking to run some fast times and race well, being mentally tough."
The Cougars assistant coach Jason Bryan, who works with the men's team, said they have also had a good couple weeks of practice since their last meet.
"We are getting stronger and with this being a fast course I expect to see some fast times from our guys," he said. "This will also be a good meet to see how we match up against the other Southern Conference schools."
