MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team fell to Wichita State 5-2 this afternoon at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
CofC's record drops to 7-6 with the loss while the Shockers improve to 6-9.
One of the bright spots for the Cougars came in singles when senior Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) improved her singles season record to 8-5 when she topped Rebecca Pedrazzi of Wichita State 6-2, 6-4 on Court 1.
Senior Olivia McMillan (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) also had a successful outing this afternoon when she split the first two sets before her opponent Carla Venticinque retired on Court 5.
“We started out flat in doubles today and that carried over into singles,” CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. “We're in a situation that no one person in our lineup can take a day off because we have so many people playing injured. We have to manage our energy levels much better in these next five matches in order to have success. These upcoming matches will determine whether or not we'll be a championship team this year.”
The Cougars will be back on the courts tomorrow, March 19 at 1:30 p.m. (ET) when they host Cornell at the College of Charleston Tennis Center.
