
Cougars to Host Pinehurst Challenge

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's golf team will host the Pinehurst Challenge April 1-2 on the Pinehurst #6 course in Pinehurst, N.C.
The tournament will feature 19 teams, who will play a practice round on Sunday and will start the tournament with a 36-hole shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. The tournament will conclude with a final round 18-hole shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Cougars will be paired with Penn State and James Madison and will start on holes one-three on Monday.
The Pinehurst #6 course will be set up as a par 72 and will measure 5,993 yards combined over the 18 holes of the golf course.
This will be the 17th year of the tournament (15th event since two years it was snowed out). It will be the fifth time the event will be held on the #6 course. The Cougars have won twice on the #6 course, most recently in 2011. Last year N.C. State won the team title.
The Cougars are coming off a 12th place finish at the inaugural Briar's Creek Invitational, which they hosted March 25-26 at the Briar's Creek Club. Freshman Louise Olsson shot a career-best final round 69 to finish tied for seventh-place in the tournament.
“I feel we are close to playing our best golf of the year,” CofC head coach Jamie Futrell said. “Pinehurst is a great place for us to play and we look forward to hosting again at this great resort.”
The 2013 Pinehurst Challenge tournament field includes: Boston University, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Dartmouth, Illinois State, Jacksonville, James Madison, Morehead State, North Florida, Old Dominion, Penn State, Richmond, Rollins, Samford, St. John's, Tennessee Tech, Wichita State and William & Mary.
