Jonas, Bryan Sweep CAA Golfer Of The Month Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – The College of Charleston men's and women's golf teams swept the Colonial Athletic Association Men's and Women's Golfer of the Month awards for February, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Sophomore John Jonas (Jacksonville, Fla.) received golfer of the month honors after his stellar play among top competition at the 2014 SunTrust Gator Invitational hosted by Florida on Feb. 15-16 in Gainesville, Fla.
Jonas shot 6-over par with a three-round score of 71-72-73—216 to finish in a four-way tie for 14th in the Cougars' spring opener at the par 70, 6,701-yard event hosted at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. A transfer from LSU, he helped Charleston card a final round of 291 to place ninth overall in the final team standings, four strokes ahead of host Florida. The tournament boasted five top-25 ranked schools in the 14-team field including Central Florida, UAB, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Florida State.
Sophomore Mary Chandler Bryan (Chapin, S.C.) garnered golfer of the month honors by finishing 3-under and tied for sixth to lead the No. 45-ranked Cougars to a tie for fourth finish at the 2014 Westbrook Invitational hosted by Wisconsin on Feb. 23-24 in Peoria, Ariz.
The par 72, 6,269-yard event was held at the Westbrook Village Golf Club. Bryan shot 73-67-73—213 in her spring opener, and her second-round 67 tied a school record for lowest round and marked a career best. Bryan scored five birdies going 2-under on the front nine and 3-under on the back nine during her school-record low round.
She tied former CofC women's golf standouts Leigh Whittaker (twice) and Angie Hill in the school record books for lowest round. The Cougars tie for fourth as a team was their fifth top-5 team finish of the season. CofC was one of five Top 50-ranked schools by GolfStat.com in the 14-team field.
