
CofC Loses Tight Dual At South Carolina In Season Finale

COLUMBIA, S.C. – College of Charleston took four of the five flights to three sets, but ultimately fell 3-2 to South Carolina in Tuesday's season finale in Columbia, S.C.
Andi Zbojniewicz and Sloane White finished the season with a team-best 13-5 record as they downed South Carolina's Vitt/Christiaansen pair in a close third flight. The Gamecocks won the first set, 25-23, but the Cougars rallied to win set two, 25-23, and set three, 15-13.
Charleston also picked up a win in the fourth flight as Kari Fidelholtz and Catey Warren knocked off Erin Neuenfeldt and Litsa Darby in three sets. Like the third flight, South Carolina won set one, 23-21, but the Cougars rallied to win set two, 21-18, and set three, 15-12.
Senior top pair Darcy Dorton and Emily Neideffer nearly gave Charleston the match victory after taking the first set from South Carolina's ones (Sarah Blomgren/Paige Wheeler), 21-19. But the Gamecocks rallied to win set two, 21-18, and set three in an extra-point thriller, 16-14.
Grace Rebarchak and Kallie McKown won their first set easily over USC's fives, 21-16, but fell 21-19 in the second set and 15-13 in the third set.
The only two-set sweep came in the second flight as USC's Megan Kent and Jordan Loney downed Melissa Morello and Cara Howley (21-15, 21-18).
The Cougars and Gamecocks split the season series after College of Charleston won a 3-2 match over USC back at the CofC Sand Classic. The two schools are currently the only ones in the state to sponsor sand volleyball.
College of Charleston concludes its third season of sand volleyball with a 6-5 team record, including wins over Oregon, LSU, ULM and South Carolina.
