CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis program will make its 2015-16 season debut at home this weekend when they host the Charleston Invitational at Patriots Point from Friday to Sunday.
“The guys are really excited to have our first home tournament of the year,” said head coach Jay Bruner. “Obviously with nine returners, everyone has just been itching to get back out on the court. With two new guys on the roster, it will be good to get them some live experience at Patriots Point. With the format of this event the guys get to watch each other compete, with friends and family getting to come out and support them as well. Gardner Webb, Appalachian State and Campbell are all teams we compete against in the spring so this will be some quality competition for us.”
The members of the Cougars roster will compete individually against student-athletes from Campbell, Appalachian State, and Gardner Webb. CofC welcomes back nine returners from last year's CAA runner-up squad with five of those being seniors.
The flighted round robin tournament will consist of eight singles and four doubles flights. Friday will have start times at noon, 2:30 and 3:30 while Saturday and Sunday will have 9 a.m., 11:30 and 12:30 start times.
About a month ago, Senior Charlie Ghriskey closed out an impressive run for the College of Charleston at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships while newcomer Ryan Khan turned in an impressive performance of his own at the East Carolina shootout.
Next weekend, the Cougars will head to the Carolina ITA Regionals where they will face off against programs from all over the Carolina region. Tournament play will run from Friday, Oct. 16 through Tuesday, Oct. 20.
